Wars of 1812 bring a diversified palette, and Scratch Track sounds like The Kills hanging out in a rap club. LM & the VLs have got quirky pop covered, while Shannon brings the old-school hippie-rock. Wars of 1812 have one of City Pages’ top local albums of 2008, and the hip-hop/blues infusion duo Scratch Track hail from Kansas City. Lucy & the Velvet Lapelles are joined by Jason Shannon, fresh off a 10K stop, and the Wars of 1812, as well as Scratch Track. $15 Music – Jason Shannon, Lucy Michelle, Wars of 1812 The Fine Line is a lovely place to see a show, and if said show features Lucy Michelle, lovely it will be. The 29-year-old Boston resident, originally from LaCrosse, WI, is currently at work on a special for Comedy Central and a recording. $5 Comedy – Shane Mauss Mauss has performed three times on Conan, and Conanophiles are quick to idolize anyone whom Conan deems worthy. They play tonight at the Turf with a bunch of import bands, like Yourself and the Air. Whereas Kill to Kill skews towards Sonic Youth, Ice Palace veers more towards traditional, deep-thinking indie rock. A commenter of a Star Tribune story mentioning his other band, Kill to Kill, called him one of the best drummers in the Cities, and he’s definitely the nicest. $18 Music – Ice Palace, Yourself and the Air, Pomegranates, The Dirty Colors We here at A&E are big fans of Ice Palace’s drummer, Joe Gaskill. MN Zoo Weesner Ampitheater 13000 Zoo Blvd., Apple Valley 7:30 p.m. They’ve been busy this summer, playing at Grand Old Day and Rock the Garden, for starters, and they hit another summer standby, the MN Zoo, tonight. free Music – Solid Gold There are plenty of buzz bands that the TC can boast right now, and Solid Gold is likely the most prominent, with a following both stateside and overseas. Local shops will participate too, hawking their wares outside so you can shop when you aren’t oohing and awwing at dogs. Friday Parade – Dog Days of Summer NE Dog Parade & Sidewalk Sale If you’re like me and feel a big hole in your life that should be filled by lots of cute puppies, some of them wearing costumes, or if you have a dog that can play nice with others, then what are you waiting for? There’s a dog parade! I think that’s incentive enough to go to this adorable NE event, led by police officer Elliot Wong.
